Senator Jamie Eldridge speaking on behalf of Amendment #125, Single Payer Health Care, which he introduced to amend a broader health care cost control bill S.2260. The amendment would have committed Massachusetts to comparing its actual health care costs with the costs it would face under a single payer plan, and if after several years the 'single payer benchmark' proved more cost-effective, the state would submit a single payer implementation plan to the state legislature. The amendment was defeated 15 to 22 on May 15, 2012.
